Having coached aspiring writers for years and being an author of several books, I thought I knew most everything in the ever-changing world of publication. When I read Roland Allnach’s The Writer’s Primer, A Practical Guide for Aspiring Authors Seeking Publication, I realized that no matter how much one knows, there is always more information.
Roland is a multi-award winning author of the strange and surreal. Writing this non fiction book is a detour from his usual novels. I’ve long admired him as an astute novelist, now I salute him as a master educator.

He has outlined the chapters in a way that provide the reader the basic understanding not only of the craft and the mechanics, but a route to navigate the marketplace. When it comes to marketing the finished book, he correctly advises that no matter who the publisher is, the author will always be responsible for marketing. Many people erroneously assume that becoming an author is an instant golden ticket to riches. Roland is quick to inform the aspiring author to write for writing’s sake. Getting published is not presented as glamorous or easy. Allnach imparts the honest facts, interspersing his personal experiences, both challenges and triumphs, to illustrate a point.
